Lisec named HilltopSecurities head of fixed income

Jason Lisec was named head of HilltopSecurities’ fixed income capital markets. He had been co-head of the department since 2020.

“Jason has a proven record as an outstanding leader who brings clarity, decisiveness and expertise to his role with our fixed income capital markets division,” said HilltopSecurities CEO Brad Winges. “He has established great partnerships between our public finance and underwriting leaders to ensure the best execution for our issuing clients.”

Lisec said, “I am excited for the opportunity to continue leading HilltopSecurities’ fixed income capital markets division as we seek opportunities to expand our capabilities and effectively serve clients across the nation.”

Jason Lisec will oversee 150 professionals at HilltopSecurities in his role as head of fixed income.

The fixed income capital markets department provides advisory, underwriting, sales, and trading services for buyers and issuers of fixed income securities, the firm says. There are over 150 people in Hilltop’s Fixed Income Capital Markets division.

Hilltop in January hired six former UBS professionals as part of a wider plan to expand its public finance footprint. Oppenheimer & Co. in the last few days also hired former UBS professionals.

Hilltop ranked 18th in the top underwriters of 2023, underwriting $3.813 billion in 184 deals, according to LSEG data.

Lisec, who joined Hilltop in 2009, has more than 30 years’ experience in fixed income capital markets and risk management. He is a Bond Dealers of America board member.

AJ Maggio, who served as co-head of Fixed Income Capital Markets division left Hilltop in July, and joined KeyBanc earlier this year. “Since that time the needs of the department and leadership was reassessed leading to Jason’s promotion as the sole head of fixed income sales, trading and analytics and as an active member of the HilltopSecurities executive team,” said Ben Brooks, Hilltop manager of corporate communications.

Hilltop also announced Wednesday it hired J.P. Zaptin as head of municipal trading in Dallas in January and Chris Drischoll as managing director of institutional sales in New York City. Zaptin was previously at FHN Financial and Drischoll was previously at JPMorgan Securities.
